Twin Cities



   

TWINNING COOPERATION


Gdynia attempts to develop its international relations; among others, by signing cooperation agreements with twin cities. These agreements assume cooperation in various fields: culture, sport, education, tourism, healthcare, transport, administration, and economy etc. According to objectives included in "Strategic Plan for Gdynia", the city established the Baltic Ring of Gdynia Twin Cities, being a network of partners which are located in the Baltic Sea Region and which signed twinning agreements with Gdynia. Entering into a similar agreement in 2001 with the Estonian city of Kunda completed the process of creating this network. The existence of the Baltic Ring of Gdynia Twin Cities allows for Gdynia's active participation in network projects as well as EU development programmes.

Europe Prize


nagrodaeuropy_1Gdynia received the Europe Prize on 25th April 2002. This award is the highest distinction that a European city or territorial authorities can be presented with for promoting the idea of European unity.

Distinctions of the Council of Europe


flagaeuropyThe Committee on the Environment, Regional Planning and Local Authorities of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe awards cities and municipalities by granting the following distinctions: European Diploma, Flag of Honour, Plaque of Honour and Europe Prize. Receiving a higher distinction is possible under condition of holding a former one for a few years.
