Mr. Szwabski is the Chairman of Gdynia City Council and a member of the Strategy and Economic Policy Commission of the City Council. He was born in Lublin in May 1943. He is an engineer and graduated from Gdańsk Technical University and has a PhD in chemistry. Until 1979 he had worked as a lecturer. Between 1979 and 1985 he lectured at the Technical University of Oran (Algeria). He is a member of the Polish Chemical Society and the Association of Polish Translators. The work in the self-government is his passion. Mr. Szwabski lives in Orłowo District. In 1990, during the first democratic local elections, he was elected Gdynia Councillor. In the years 1990-1994, Mr. Szwabski was a member of the City Board and between 1994 and 1998 he was the Vice-Chairman of Gdynia City Council. After the 1998 local election, he became the Chairman of Gdynia City Council. During the 4th term of the City Council he was reelected as the Chairman. In the year 2002, he became the leader of the Civic Platform political party, branch in Gdynia. Mr. Szwabski is a passionate lover of classical and jazz music. He reads the works of Miłosz, Parnicki, Kołakowski, Tischner and Davies. He is interested in cross-cultural issues, international contacts, ethnography and tourism. He is married, has a daughter and a grand-son.
