Distinctions of the Council of Europe

The Committee on the Environment, Regional Planning and Local Authorities of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe awards cities and municipalities by granting the following distinctions: European Diploma, Flag of Honour, Plaque of Honour and Europe Prize. Receiving a higher distinction is possible under one condition: possession of a former one for a few years.

Gdynia received three highest distinctions: Council of Europe Flag of Honour, Council of Europe Plaque of Honour and Europe Prize.. Gdynia received these distinctions in recognition of its international activity i.e.: twin cities cooperation, active membership in European organisations, organisation of various economic-political, cultural-sporting events as well as other ones of European character. The city was awarded also for propagation of the European integration idea in the local community and for activity of non-governmental organisations in the European dimension.

All European awards received by Gdynia are of prestigious character and promote our city among European structures. The prizes constitute measurable effects of Gdynia's foreign cooperation, give voice to the openness of our city and place our municipality in European partners.
