Proklamacja miasta Seattle

Miasto Seattle
PROKLAMACJA

Proklamacja wyrażająca głębokie wyrazy współczucia oraz szczere kondolencje od mieszkańców Seattle dla mieszkańców Polski oraz naszego miasta siostrzanego - Gdyni.
Zważywszy, że Stany Zjednoczone i Polska mają długą historię przyjaznych kontaktów, między innymi sojusz zawarty w czasie II Wojny Światowej, a ponadto Polacy nawiązują ważne i głębokie przyjaźnie i więzi z Amerykanami;
oraz
Zważywszy, że działacze Solidarności nie tylko sprawili, że mieszkańcy Polski odzyskali wolność i demokrację, lecz dali także reszcie świata nadzieję na lepsze jutro poprzez okazywanie wzajemnego wsparcia;
oraz
Zważywszy, że 10 kwietnia 2010 roku Prezydent Rzeczypospolitej Polski, Lech Kaczyński, jego żona oraz grupa obecnych i byłych polskich mężów stanu zginęli tragicznie w katastrofie lotniczej pod Smoleńskim w Rosji w drodze na obchody upamiętniające 22 000 przedstawicieli polskiej elity wojskowej i cywilnej zamordowanych przez NKWD przed 70 laty;
oraz
Zważywszy, że od kwietnia 1993 roku Miasto Seattle oraz Miasto Gdynia łączy wyjątkowa więź miast siostrzanych przynosząca wiele sukcesów, która pozwoliła na stworzenie oraz pielęgnowanie prawdziwych przyjaźni i szacunku poprzez programy międzyludzkie;

Niniejszym Rada Miasta Seattle ogłasza, że mieszkańcy Seattle wyrażają szczere wyrazy współczucia oraz głębokie kondolencje dla mieszkańców Polski oraz naszego miasta siostrzanego - Gdyni.

Dear Mayor Szczurek,
I cannot imagine how devastating this tragedy is to you personally and Poland as a nation.
Just a short note to let you know that Barbara and I share in your loss and offer to you our sincere condolences and prayers. We know from our experiences the importance and beauty of Polish friendship and the resiliency of the Polish nation.
The poet George Elliot wrote “Souls live on in perpetual echoes” All that each of us does continues forever in the effects it has on others and that others have on others.
Let us take solace from the “echoes” of Katyn that have emerged and survive the suppression of a totalitarian regime and remember these Polish leaders recently lost at Smolensk, particularly, in their struggles for freedom and democracy. Theirs as well as the Katyn “echoes” have made a better world for all of us.
We owe it to them and their sacrifices to remember that freedom is never a final fact but a continuing and evolving process and we have obligations and responsibilities to that end in their honor.

May God bless their souls and guide us in perpetuating their “echoes”
In Solidarity,
Mike Waske

Dear Joanna,
We are all so sad here in Seattle about the tragedy. The SGSCA had a gathering this Sunday afternoon to share the grief. One of the local TV stations showed up and did a small piece on the Polish Community. They were amazed to learn that there are people here in Seattle who are not Polish but are as saddened as the rest of the Polish Community.

In sympathy and support

Allen and I wish to let all of you know we are thinking of you as you reflect and consider the tragic events of this day both in the present and 70 years ago - you are in our thoughts and prayers and we hope that you will think toward the future and what "can and will be accomplished" because of the great work that each of you do to make this world a better place in which to live - we are in support of you now and as you take the next steps.

Honoring the words of Jerzy Buzek:
It is difficult to comprehend the tragedy. It was difficult to imagine that a few dozen people, many of whom were elected by us, the Poles, in every part of our homeland, to be our representatives, would die within a few seconds while on duty, on duty for each of us.

It was a special and unusual trip. It was about the memory of the events 70 years ago. Now we have another great memorial and we will remember that memorial - also on Russian soil near Smolensk, near Katyn - on the date 10 April. This is a terrible coincidence, and let us be together, let us talk to each other.

"Let us talk to each other".
In sympathy and support.
Allen and Janice Jaworski
